the exhibition announcement series represented here is considered the hallmark of works’ identity, and the most experimental of joe's work in graphic design. this sampling represents over 200 more such projects completed over the span of 20 years.
joe miller met gillian ellenby, then president of works, in the fall of 1987. impressed with a poster he had designed for ksjs radio, she asked if he would donate the design of a poster for works’ upcoming halloween ball. after hearing her description of the nonprofit community art center and its merits, joe agreed, starting a multi-faceted relationship with works that continues to this day. in 1990, the board of directors asked joe to assume responsibility for all graphic materials for the organization, which has since included the announcement series, architectural graphics, business papers, t-shirts, mugs, brochures, exhibition signage, catalogs, and other materials.
